Common Reasons For Wanting Breast Augmentation

The number one reason to have breast augmentation surgery is—no surprise here—to make them larger. This is what drives many of us to search around the internet for hours looking at breast implants before-and-after photos asking around on breast augmentation forums and seeking advise and support as though we needed approval from strangers.

Well, it isn't about approval at all! Finding out more about breast augmentation is about sharing information and experiences. It is about seeking out those who have been there and done it, and who are willing to help others through the very same experience.            

There are probably as many reasons to have breast augmentation surgery as there are women. Many women who choose to have breast augmentation are mothers. Many of these women have spent the last few (or many) years selflessly caring for their children, their husbands, their dogs, their cats, their homes, their work. Many have lost breast tissue due to their pregnancy and/or breastfeeding or due to aging. The point of this section isn't to point to any specific reason to have breast augmentation, with the exception of one rule: If you decide to have breast augmentation, you must make sure you are doing it for yourself and yourself only.

When You DO NOT Need to Have Breast Augmentation

You must be sure you are not doing it for your spouse or boyfriend or significant other. It must be for YOU. If someone is urging you to have breast implants put in and you do not feel 100% right about it, do not do it. If you believe that having larger breasts is the only way to keep your husband or boyfriend, do not do it.

And if you think that everything in your life will be better if you have a bigger bust, do not do it. Bigger breasts can certainly make you feel better about yourself and boost your self-esteem, but they will not change anything else about your life.

Keep in mind that having bigger boobs will make you the object of what is sometimes unwanted attention. Are you prepared for that?

There are inherent risks and possible serious complications with breast augmentation surgery. It is surgery and should never be taken lightly. You will have some pain and some discomfort and have to go through a recovery period that may not be comfortable. No one will go through that but you.

Breast augmentation is not a “one time, good for life” operation. There is maintenance that you and only you must take responsibility for. Currently, it is recommended that women with silicone breast implants undergo special imaging tests every few years. You have to take care in choosing a qualified breast augmentation surgeon and read about every aspect of breast augmentation so that you are making an informed decision.

Beyond that one rule, you can have breast augmentation for any reason at all. Breast augmentation is a personal decision and the personal factors that are behind it must be your own.
