Your Postoperative Breast Augmentation Appointments: What to Expect
Follow-up appointments with your surgeon after breast implant surgery are very important. These visits allow your surgeon to make sure that your breasts are healing properly.
Postoperative Breast Augmentation Schedule
Usually, you will see your surgeon within a week of your surgery for your first postoperative appointment. There will likely be another visit scheduled for the following week.
During these postoperative appointments, your surgeon will examine your incisions and remove sutures if necessary. He or she will check the appearance of your breasts. The two of you should discuss your recovery and any concerns you may have.
The next appointment is usually one month after your breast augmentation surgery. This may be followed by visits two months, three months and six months after the surgery. The postoperative visit schedule varies based on how well and how fast you heal. You may need to see your surgeon more frequently if a complication such as an infection develops after your breast augmentation surgery.
The purpose of multiple follow-ups is to monitor your healing as well as the cosmetic results of your breast augmentation surgery. Healing takes time. Your breasts may be bruised and swollen for some time after your surgery. It may take weeks or even months for the breast implants to drop. You may only be able to see the true cosmetic result six months down the road.
Postoperative Breast Augmentation Visit Costs
Some or all of the costs of your postoperative appointments may be included in your total breast augmentation cost. Make sure you are aware of your surgeon's policy on the costs of these visits, so that there are no surprises.
